You may have seen this drawing in my profile, but I just had to tell you the story behind it …
That had been a hard night. My husband was traveling, Nicolas had a restless sleep and woke up several times, and in the end, I just couldn’t fall back asleep. After lying there nearly an hour without sleep, I decided to do something more useful – and got up to draw. There’s only one detail: it was 4:30 in the morning. Totally insane, but surprisingly inspired, I decided to make my self-portrait. Obviously it wasn’t meant to be totally based on reality, after all I wasn’t planning to include dark circles, wrinkles, nor a typical 4:30am messy hair. I know, the most likely result would be a very phony-balony self-portrait.
But I went ahead.
I made the drawing, painted in watercolor and when the sun came up I admired the young girly me with neat hair.
Then, Nicolas woke up. I knew he would tell me the truth about the drawing as he is this 2 year old boy who is talking heaps. And you know children – they don’t lie. So I took a deep breath and showed him the drawing.
– Who is this one, Nic?
He thought for a few seconds and said pointing to the stain of green paint on the nose:
– Mommy with snot on her nose!
I thought his comment so amusing!
And at least he did say it was “me” in the drawing! 🙂
